Answer #1:

if you don't know how to take care of a dog, why did you adopt it....it's up to YOU to take care of the dog, not strangers on Yahoo.

Answer #2:

I feed Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul.
It's pretty good for the price.
My Chi's do fantastic on it.

Answer #3:

I've been feeding my two Dachshunds Orijen 6 Fish for a few years now, and they're really thriving on it. I couldn't be happier with it, and can't recommend it enough.

Of course, the best food is one with ingredients you are happy with, and your dog does best on. Different dogs do better on different foods. Orijen has been perfect for my dogs (and I went through almost a dozen foods before I arrived at Orijen), but it is not perfect for all dogs. You just have to keep looking until you find food that you are 100% satisfied with, and that your dog does great on. Good luck with your new Doxie!

Answer #4:

Evo by Inova for sure. My mom feeds her dachshund x chihuahua the Evo small bites and I feed my lab the Evo reduced fat. Both dogs are extremely healthy and everyone compliments my dog for how shiny and soft her coat is and how healthy and fit she looks! I definitely recommend it!

Answer #5:

I would go with either Orijen or Taste of the Wild. I've had great results with both. The Orijen is particularly good for high energy dogs that need extra protein. If you are uncomfortable with such high protein, go with Taste of the Wild. It's actually pretty similar to Orijen but with a lower protein content. It's also quite a bit cheaper. My dogs love both and do extremely well on them. I do supplement with raw as well.

Answer #6:

I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild, a grain-free formula. My Dachshund was originally on the Pacific Stream formula (dry kibble) but seemed to be losing weight, so I put him on the higher protein Wetlands formula, and he also gets a few spoonfuls of Wellness 95% Turkey mixed in. Please note, however, that he is an intact active show dog that needs all those calories, and I don't recommend that specifically for all dogs. I would recommend that you start your dog on the TotW dry kibble only ( Click Here ), whichever formula you choose (or you can rotate them every couple of months for variety).

Now of course, there is always the option of raw feeding. Healthy as grain-free kibbles are, they still do not stack up to raw meat and meaty bones. Here are some good websites and email groups to educate yourself about raw feeding and decide if it is right for you and your dog:
