How to maximize your profits from scrap gold! - buy scrap gold Questions

Question #1:

How much would be a good price to haggle?

I noticed a very unusual gold necklace in second hand jewellery store and I'm interested in purchasing it, especially as I know that there's another serious buyer who would like to try and melt it down.
It's a high quality piece of jewellery 18K with a good (world renowned) name attached to it and weighs in at 142 grams (solid gold)

I've checked around and if I was trying to buy something similar to it new from the original retailer it would cost me $9,250 - $10,500.
I've calculate the scrap value of the necklace to be $4,237.

The seller is pushing that it's a "unique" piece and "vintage" therefore worth a lot more; the price set is $16,500.

There's no way that I'm paying that much for it, retail prices are inflated anyway but then to inflate it again is beyond wishful thinking. I know that the other buyer will offer a lot less than that and probably less than me as they're only interested in the gold value, not the name.
I'm keen to haggle with this seller but this time I'm not sure what to offer. Typically I offer 50% the asking price and work from there with it usually ending up at 35% the asking price, but I know that jewelry is the special exception to the rule as the Western market always over-inflates it cripplingly.
The seller also seems well versed in trading by weight rather than a set marked price, they've listed the weight per gram on all the items.

What would be a good price to try haggling for?

Question #2:

Trying to get out of debt, when is the best time to sell our scrap gold and silver?

My husband and I are trying to get out of debt, paying off credit cards, student loans, etc. We have made quite a dent in the past two years considering we have a six year old, four year old, and one year old. We have a decent amount of scrap gold and silver we would like to sell to pay off debt or invest in my husbands business (he needs cash for a buying trip as we sell items online). We have a friend that does this and will give us a fair price for it. Do we hold onto it and hope that the prices continue to climb, or go ahead and sell it and pay towards our debt or invest in the business now? When do you think it will reach it's peak price?

Question #5:

What Can I Get For Scrap Silver Jewelry?

Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if scrap silver jewelry is worth anything. Don't laugh, I weighed it on a food scale, and it reads 480 grams or 1.09 ounces. Does that mean anything to anyone? Sorry, but I do not know much about jewelry stats. So, if I brought it to a place that says they buy gold/silver/etc....would I get anything for it do you think? Thanks in advance, everyone.

Question #6:

Should I invest in gold bars?

Hello,
My fiancee and I are selling some scrap gold, which has sparked my interest in gold as an investment. I was wondering if it would make sense to just get our scrap gold melted into a bar, and then purchasing additional bars as investments. I am 24 now and could probably buy .5 oz a month at current value. Would this be a smart investment for the future? I like the idea of having a physical investment (not to meantion the cool factor of having a safe full of gold bars). Is now a good time to be investing in gold? What is the best way to go about this? Who sells the cheapest bars (closest to market value)? Thanks so much!

Question #8:

How long for compost?

II started my compost just as a pile of organic material (grass clippings, kitchen scraps etc) directly on the ground in a corner of my yard. Yesterday after much research I bought some chicken manure and added that as well. As I mixed it, I could feel heat being generated which I know is a good thing. But how long will it all take to breakdown completely into useable compost (black garden gold) and is there anything I can do to speed it up? Add worms, more manure etc…? All suggestions appreciated. Happy Cinco De Mayo!!!!

Question #14:

Why are people so evil and selfish?

I'm sure it's been this way among humans forever in every place we have graced our presence with. Why? Some rat turd stole my son's bike right from our doorstep a few days ago. No biggie, it can be replaced, but what leads someone to trespass on others property and steal from someone else? I am not saying I am a saint, but even if my neighbor sat 6.7 million dollars worth of gold bricks on their front porch I would not touch it! It's not mine to touch, it does not belong to me, so why would I touch it? Even if I was hungry or my children were hungry, I would not touch it! We would eat scraps and grass until we could trap or make tools to hunt an animal to eat if it came down to it. I don't understand people.

On a larger scale and aside from my own trifles, why are there hungry people at all when there is enough food for everyone? Why are there weapons that can destroy the world 100 times over and not enough medicine to help the sick? Why do we have to pay to have the most basic of necessities (food, shelter, water)? Why is it a crime for a man or woman to hunt a non-threatened animal to put food on the family table if they don't have a license to do so? Same applies to fishing, you have to pay to have a fishing permit? Why do so many accept the lies and ugliness of this world and perpetuate it?

I'm not a tree hugging hippie, I am a normal human being that sees something very wrong with this life and this world. What am I doing to change it? I have a garden, I have guns, I bought "da man's" hunting permit although I am part native and I have a blood right to this land to take what I need to feed my family, I don't watch TV, I only drive when necessary, I recycle containers and jars and many other things, I don't buy crap I don't really need, I make my foods from scratch 99% of the time, I give to others even though I am not rich by any means.

You can't step out the door these days without being bombarded by the general meanness and hatefulness of some people. It's like something in the air or water. People see someone coming and don't even have the common courtesy to say excuse me or move a bit. Some people think the world owes them something. It's like nothing is real anymore. This world is like a nightmare! Call me a pessimist or Negative Nancy, I don't care! It's real. What the hell is going on?
That's exactly the problem Miss "Candy Princess", people like you write this off as, "Oh it's just human nature hun, join the brain dead club and shut up!" Well no I won't shut up, and you mean to tell me being a slime that takes what is not yours to take...be it a bike or another person's natural human rights to EXIST, is right, and human nature? Lady, you're sick. Go get help.

Question #15:

This the begining of my story. read and give me some feed back thanks! x ,you will help alot. x?

Chapter 1

The end of the Beginning

I am Bayliee Thomson the new girl. Not only new school, but new country, new neighbourhood and a new mother.
England was my home it always had been, and now that is all gone I feel there’s a part of me missing, just a small part but big enough for it to hurt.
I have never really like The United States, it has never appealed to me. Most people see it for glamour and fame. I see past that. See past that superficial world of beauty and perfection. I see the drugs and the violence, the bullets and the hell.

But thankfully I am in a good neighbourhood with security outside every house. But it just wont be the same as my beloved England.

Chapter 2

Thank god for that

As I got of the plane, with my dad, I could feel the heat. It was sticky and uncomfortable. You could smell the sea, a warm, salty smell. Not like the beaches in England. I actually preferred this smell, it was calming, something I could get used to.
It was 82 degrees in Palm Beach, West Florida. Way more than it was in London. I was wearing my yellow shirt and my favourite, smart grey trousers with the three gold buttons on the pockets. I really wish I didn’t wear them now, as I am so hot and I’m not even outside yet!

I am glad that we are moving to a ‘well to-do’ town as dad calls it (I just call it a rich snotty town), otherwise I would never fit in. All my wardrobe consisted of is designer clothes! I have almost every brand that my dad will buy for me, at a reasonable price. I have : Gucci, Armani, Christopher Kane, Chanel, Burberry and a whole lot more.

My dad is a millionaire and so was my grandmother and grandfather. My grandparents past away 2 years ago along with my mother. They were in a terrible car accident. The car was only a scrap box by the time the lorry had finished with it. We couldn’t even have a proper cremation, my mother and grandparents were to badly injured. I still think about them, a lot. But I now have to make the most of my time here on this big round rock, I know that’s what my mother would have wanted.

Everyone in the airport seemed so happy. It must be all the sun there getting. Customs was really quick to get through, around 20 to 30 minutes I should say. The car dad had hired was waiting outside the airport for us. It was a brand new black BMW X5. The chauffeur wasn’t our usual one, William. This man was very tall and had long brown hair, that came down just past his shoulder. His hair was tied back into a messy ponytail.
William will be coming over in 2 weeks to live with us. He has been a chauffeur in our family for 20 years.
My family have always been very wealthy, my ancestors were owners of a diamond mine in north Canada, this was over 200 years ago. But the mine was said to be a curse. To anyone who did not pass the test that god had set. If you didn’t pass the test you would see death and horror. Almost everyone in the village tried to get to the diamonds, not believing the curse, but those who went in never came back out.
My great, great, great, great aunt Maria’s boyfriend had died early in the morning, the day that they were meant to be getting married. She decided she had nothing to lose, and headed into the cave with her sister Rosemary, who had 2 children of her own. Rosemary loved her sister more than the world, and would not let her go into the cave alone. Four days later they came out! Claiming that god had told them they were lucky and had passed the test to owning the mine. Everyone in the town celebrated. Even the King who lived many fields away came to congratulate the chosen ones of god.
My grandmother also said that my ancestors were Witches and that was why they passed the test, since they were something out of the ordinary. My aunts were murder though. Around 10 years after the finding of the diamonds.

As I got closer to the chauffeur I could see his golden name tag. It spelt, James. He open the door for me and my dad, then put our suitcases into the trunk of the car. It was a 2 hour drive from Palm beach international airport to our new house on north road, Jupiter Island.

The drive went quicker than I expected. I looked out of the window all the way there. Looking at the cost line and palm trees, something I wasn’t used to but soon will be. Dad was extremely quiet which was unusual, he always has something to say like me. But I was to busy enjoying the silence to want to break the silence. I tried not to think about the ‘mummy’ waiting for us to knock at the door. Eliza isn’t bad, not at all. I wouldn’t but up with her otherwise. Its just, she try’s to hard. Everything she does is perfection, it gets really irritating. The car then stopped to soon, and I reluctantly stepped out into the bright light. The moment I opened the door the hot, sticky air covered me. I quickly put

Question #16:

How to become a Gold Buyer?

Can some one point me in the right direction for learning how to test gold and weight it properly so as to determine value?

Question #17:

What do companies such as Cash 4 Gold do with the "scrap" gold they purchase?

I keep seeing more and more ads offering to buy my "scrap" gold. What do these companies do with the gold they buy?

Question #18:

Im thinking of selling my gold necklace, how much can I expect to get for it?

I guess I am going to take it to one of the many places that seem to be buying gold these days. It is not scrap it is in perfect condition. But I am sure they will buy it as scrap. It is 14k gold and weighs 156.1grams. I just checked todays spot price and its is $1217 per troy ounce. So maybe that will save you a minute. I am just curious as a ballpark how much I can expect to get for it.

Question #19:

What to do with stubborn parents that mistreat a cat?

So yesterday, my parents adopted a cat from the animal shelter. When we brought it home, it was very playful and curious. However, it would not eat much of the dry food that we put out for it and drank very little water. I suggested to my parents that we buy the same brand of food that they used at the shelter or buy some wet cat food to see if the cat would eat it. Buy my stubborn parents said "Who cares. He'll eat when he's hungry" , and when I suggested changing the brand of dry cat food to try or switching to wet cat food, my parents said that they would feed it scraps from the table, or cook some chicken or canned fish for it, but that was all. Is this even healthy? Well, after one nights sleep, the cat was still very energetic. However, after my mom "accidently" stepped on its tail, it has become mopy and sleeps a lot. I could also notice that the cat's eyes, which usually shine a bright gold color, have red spots around them. What should I do? Should I call the humane society and rat out my parents? I personally love that cat and would hate to see it lose its life so early. (He is one years old.)
