Question #1:

Is this okay for bridesmaids gifts??? What to get the last girl?

I have six girls and this was what I was planning on giving them. I am giving different gifts to each of them but giving them the gifts at separate times so there is no jealousy. Even though I don't think there would be jealousy because i'm trying to get something that is her personality.
One girl is really country but glam at the same time I was thinking of getting her horse shoe earrings that have studs on them and some lip gloss that she loves. One girl is really into movies so I was going to get her a basket with candies popcorn and her favorite movie that she doesn't have. One is really into scrap book things so I was going to get her a few scrapbook items. One just moved into an apartment and loves to cook so i was going to get her an apron or a cookbook with some cookie or other mix. For my maid of honor she is a partier so i found this super cute personalized margarita set or I was going to make her a basket with jewelry, makeup or silk pajamas or something like that:] I also thought of getting a designer purse from ross or TJMaxx(brand new but only cost about $50) For my last girl she is really into snowboarding but I don't want to get her anything she wont like, use or something she already has. Are there any certain items that a snowboarder always uses or maybe just another idea? I was also probably going to make them all a card with sentimental written stuff:] would that be okay?

Question #2:

How much would be a good price to haggle?

I noticed a very unusual gold necklace in second hand jewellery store and I'm interested in purchasing it, especially as I know that there's another serious buyer who would like to try and melt it down.
It's a high quality piece of jewellery 18K with a good (world renowned) name attached to it and weighs in at 142 grams (solid gold)

I've checked around and if I was trying to buy something similar to it new from the original retailer it would cost me $9,250 - $10,500.
I've calculate the scrap value of the necklace to be $4,237.

The seller is pushing that it's a "unique" piece and "vintage" therefore worth a lot more; the price set is $16,500.

There's no way that I'm paying that much for it, retail prices are inflated anyway but then to inflate it again is beyond wishful thinking. I know that the other buyer will offer a lot less than that and probably less than me as they're only interested in the gold value, not the name.
I'm keen to haggle with this seller but this time I'm not sure what to offer. Typically I offer 50% the asking price and work from there with it usually ending up at 35% the asking price, but I know that jewelry is the special exception to the rule as the Western market always over-inflates it cripplingly.
The seller also seems well versed in trading by weight rather than a set marked price, they've listed the weight per gram on all the items.

What would be a good price to try haggling for?

Question #3:

I think I may have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.?

I think I may have OCD. I know a lot of people try to say they have OCD to get attention, but I'm not trying to get attention. If I don't have OCD, then can someone please help me find out what is wrong with me? If I do have OCD, then can somebody please tell me the first step I should take?

For statistics sake: I'm a 5'9", 207lb, 18 year old, white male with no previous mental conditions.

My compulsions:
If I touch one side of my body, I MUST touch the respective other side. (i.e; I touch my left cheek with my right index finger, then I feel compelled to touch my right cheek with my left index finger.) If I don't, then I feel unbalanced for a long time.

I also cannot leave something shiny laying on the floor, and I MUST pick it up. I usually place it in a small box where I've been hoarding a bunch of shiny things. Shiny things include jewelry, coins, bottlecaps, soda tabs, chains, metal scraps, CD's, an more.

I continuously organize all the cards in my room (5 poker decks, 1 Tarot card deck, Official documents that are card-sized, and many Trading cards)

I look behind me as if somebody is watching me. I guess it may just be paranoia, but this happens all the time. It happens so often, that my girlfriend often questions what I'm looking at.

This is the worst one of all, and I wish it would just stop:
Sometimes I feel the urge to do very violent things. They're just passing thoughts, but their disturbing. They include: pushing my best friend's 4 year old son, throwing my cat, and stabbing random passerby's.

All of these things happen periodically and to varying degrees. Either I forget seconds later, or it bothers me the whole day, or anything in between.

Question #4:

What Can I Get For Scrap Silver Jewelry?

Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if scrap silver jewelry is worth anything. Don't laugh, I weighed it on a food scale, and it reads 480 grams or 1.09 ounces. Does that mean anything to anyone? Sorry, but I do not know much about jewelry stats. So, if I brought it to a place that says they buy gold/silver/etc....would I get anything for it do you think? Thanks in advance, everyone.

Question #6:

Can a jewelry store sell someone item that they own without warning them?

I had a hook replaced on a necklace at a jewelry store that's now going out of business. The repair wasn't much, but during the time it was fixed I didn't have time really to just go and get it (for many reasons). I kept in contact with them often, making sure they didn't sell it or anything in that nature. The person I often spoke to gave me her word that it'll be there whenever I got ready for it. They wouldn't sell it or put it with scrap. So when I finally went back for it, I was told it was rendered for payment. The necklace wasn't cheap and it had sentimental value to me. They were all rude and was just simply saying it's gone. They act like it was nothing. I'm sure if they had something so special taken away, they would feel where I'm coming from. Long story short, is there anything I can do about this. It has to be something.
***There policy is anything kept over 2 years will be gone, it wasn't there that long. It was only there for a good year, besides that my father had a watch that he had repaired that I didn't know anything about, he never got it out because he died! The jewelry store contacted me about it and it was there for 3 years. I owned this item!

It was all noted what day I made a payment, called etc.

Question #7:

How much is $7 a gram converted to pennyweights in gold ?

I'm trying to sell some scrap gold jewelry and I've been checking around at some nearby jewelry shops and everyone gave me a price in pennyweights except for one company that gave me their price in grams. Some kind of formula would be awesome also btw.

Question #8:

Crime questions; why are some offences more 'fashionable' to answer than others?

We have two incidents which have opened the confusion of the British public lately; one being the drip drip drip Jon Venables circus, which started off as 'a scrap in a workplace' - or as the populist papers put it; a 'sickening attack on a workmate', then along came him being painted as a 'disordered drunk', with fashionable mixtures of alcohol along with drugs (but of course) being added to jazz that particular story, then we have stories of 'child pornography'. Last week I wondered if he would be accused of changing religion, and spending time in Pakistan/Iran/Afghanistan to learn about terrorism...but hey - that's yet to come.
The public - so we are told - have a right to learn more, with The Sun giving us the most prejudicial front page in the 21st century '...On a scale from 1 to 5, Venables child porn rated 4'. Oh aye...tell us more - of course, being the Sun, they couldn't, as they were taking up the cry which started with the Daily Mirror.
They don't know...and as a result, neither do we - but (hooray) will nonetheless become internet hysterical lynch mobs to get whatever it is out of our system - which I suspect has nothing to do with childkillers or terrorists.
But wait - what about this beauty I read in an airport internet cafe earlier today...

...as much as I tried, couldn't find a single dear who expressed disgust at the attitude of not only the robbers, but also the 'walk-on-by' public...perhaps the same sort who had typed letters to Evening Standard (or even in Y!A) squealing about Venables and Thompson.

Question #9:

Scrap Gold Buyers on eBay: How do you find your treasures and profits?

eBay is saturated with fine gold jewellery. How do you sift through it all in order to find your pieces? What are your secrets, tricks, etc? I realize some undesirable keywords can be eliminated in search like gold fill, gold plate, etc. But there has to be a better way than scrolling through hundreds of listings.

Question #10:

Have I set the bar too high with my son?

I have a 15 month old son, and I love him dearly, and did a lot of little things for him, like, we had proffessional photos done every month of his first year, and he has 4 scrapbooks of just him. I made him a blanket and did some oil paintings for his nursery, and saved all his little things, his shoes, his curl from his haircut, you know, stuff like that, had a special peice of jewelry made with his pictures on it, and devoted all my time to him, reading to him, cuddling him, you know.

Today my husband's aunt told me that "I set the bar way too high, and I better be able to do the same things with my next children, or they will think I lov emy son more. " I thought that was kind of mean of her to say.
But I wonder, is she right? I mean, I had so much time with my son to photogrpah him, to scrap book, to paint, to give him undivided attention. I am certain that I won't be able to provide my next xhild with that undivided attention because then I would neglect my son.

And it is true, about the photos. THer are hundreds of pictures of me, but by te time we reach ,my youngst brother, there is just one small album. And to be honest, my mom rather favors him. Do you really get too busy or do you adopt the "Little Johnnie learned to walk too, so we don't need to take a nother freakin' picture" mentalilty?
I should mention that I did work for a photography studio....
and I only did monthly photos for his first year.

also, i plan on drawing something for her or making a "scrapped" Christmas card.

Question #15:

Sentimental gift ideas for 25 year old bf...more inside?

He is 25 and I am 23. We have been together for over 4 years and marriage is definitely in our future. We are going away to visit his family for xmas. I have a few small gifts for him; movies nad pj pants and slippers, but on top of that; I want to get him something really sentimental.

He is a sentimental guy...so he will appreciate the effort of anything that I do; however I want something small and extra special as a kind of token of hoe much I love him.

I have already done the scrap book of memories thing, and while he ALWAYS wears a necklace from his grandfather; other jewelry is out until he gets a wedding band.

What I am thinking is that I want to give him something that he can always carry with him and know I am close by...cheesy, but all of the other sentimental gifts I have given him are things that are stashed away in his room...id like to give him something that always goes with him...

any ideas would be great, esp from you guys.

p.s. a wild night with naughty lingere is NOT a good gift in this scenario, because we will be around family for 2 weeks...I could do it before or after, but at that point, I might a well save it for his birthday.
thanks all,

He actually got a new wallet last year so its a bit soon to spring a new on on him , and he has a favorite belt...as I said...sentimental...he wears and uses things until they fall apart, at which point he will reluctantly replace them.

He is out of PJ pants, so I am thinking I will get him a good pair or 2, and some slippers to keep his feet warm since he keeps wearing mine. I also got him some DVDs. knitting and crocheting dont mean much to him because it was so normal to him that his mom would do those things...even though I did learn a few years back. I have made him stuff before...I am just not sure where to go this holiday

Question #16:

soft edges for aluminum can jewelry?

i'm making a charm bracelet using scraps of an aluminum can. (going green!) they are small little scraps that i (of course) sanded down to make the edges softer. however, they could still be harmful because of how thin the aluminum is. simple question: how could i make them thicker? what type of solution could i buy or make that would sort of create a thick clear coat for my charms?

i was thinking maybe i could just cover the charms in hot glue (since i already have it). but it would create a rubbery texture and might cloud the design.

then i was thinking of just using many many layers of clear coat nail polish (since i already have it) but that's just too time consuming.
this is probably a silly question to all of those jewelry makers out there but i'm young and new at this!! so your help would be appreciated! :]
